House Re-modelling

North Yorkshire

This property has played an important role within the Rudding Estate in Harrogate for over 150 years. Dormer & Co Architects were appointed to remodel the Cottage to be suitable for 21st Century living, in a manner that was sympathetic to the building’s history, character and setting, and to better reflect the Estate’s portfolio of luxury letting properties. It is both our client’s and our belief that a property of distinction creates a long term legacy and a more desirable commercial proposition. Set against the woodland backdrop and benefiting from unobstructed meadow views, our immediate notion was to add a subtle extension of dark tones to the North, with a lightweight pavilion style extension to the South. This would allow the original light-toned stone-faced Cottage to maintain its dominance. In addition to the visible changes, the thermal performance of the building was significantly enhanced together with the use of an air source heat pump.
