New Build House
North Yorkshire
Constructed on the site of two former railway workers cottages, with extensive views, our aim was to create a new dwelling that both provided for contemporary living and reflected the site’s history. Characteristics of railway architecture were reinterpreted in contemporary forms to create a light and spacious dwelling. Elements such as the corner windows, steep pitches and materials palette are reminiscent of nineteenth-century railway architecture, but their interpretation is distinctly of the twenty-first century. In keeping with both the ethos of our practice and our clients, the property benefits from a ‘fabric first’ approach to energy use as well as incorporating a Ground Source Heat Pump.
